Meridian School had the unique opportunity to host a fantastic group of kids from Zhongshan Overseas Chinese Secondary School for the past two weeks. Working with these students has been such a pleasure and their visit will be an experience faculty and students will never forget. The students of Zhongshan School excelled in all academic fields and loved our extra curricular activities. Not only did we have a blast in the classroom we also had a blast at our after school events. Movie theater trips, sightseeing, tubing, bowling, and of course hanging out with other Meridian students were just a few things the kids enjoyed.
Each student was given an individual schedule with a wide variety of classes that focused on each discipline. We offered advanced Math, English, and Science along with music/art classes such as ukelele and ballroom dance. Students also participated in Technology classes such as Meridian’s ExploreLab which focuses on computer programming, drones, and robots. Donny Helvey, science and ExploreLab teacher, loved having the two week exchange students involved in his classes and was astounded by how hard these students worked in just the short time they were here. He said, “I was amazed at the skill and dedication that these students had. They jumped right in to the projects and were extremely diligent! They thrived in having choices and they collaborated well as a team.”
On the final day of the students visit, Meridian sent off the Zhongshan group with a farewell ceremony and a host family banquet. Meridian and Merit teachers alike shared their gratitude to the Zhongshan students for their effort and dedication. We had so much fun with this group of students and hope to see them back soon!
